Eligibility Requirements
Before applying to sit for the LCCE exam, ensure you meet the eligibility requirements. Lamaze offers a three-step process to be eligible to sit for the Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) certification exam.
Standard Eligibility Pathways
Step 1: Purchase the Lamaze Educator Learning Guide and complete the self-study
Step 2: Attend a Lamaze-Accredited Childbirth Educator Seminar
Step 3: Apply to take the Lamaze Certification Exam

Alternative Eligibility Pathways
If you’re unable to complete the standard route or if you are already an experienced and highly skilled educator or midwife, these are some alternative options to become Lamaze certified. You can choose one alternative to each of the first two recommended steps:

Choose One Alternative to Recommended Step 2: Attend a Lamaze-Accredited Childbirth Educator Seminar
- Document 60 hours of childbirth education teaching experience within the past three years
- Document your status as a current student or graduate from a midwifery training program. (This option must be paired with a Lamaze-Accredited Childbirth Educator Seminar for exam eligibility)
- Complete an approved formal course on teaching childbirth education
Note: All eligibility requirements must be completed within three calendar years of exam registration. Attending a Lamaze-Accredited Childbirth Educator Seminar may only be used for step 1 or step 2, not both.
