In the United States, Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than white women. Furthermore, Black women are about 50% more likely to deliver a premature baby than white women. High preterm birth rates for Black women and birthing people exist across socioeconomic levels. When infants are born preterm, before 37 weeks, they have higher rates of death and disability.
Lamaze International has partnered with Creating Healthier Communities (CHC) on the Black Birthing Initiative, launched in January 2022, to address the maternal health crisis and reduce preterm births.
You spoke, and we listened! We've heard your awesome feedback about the Black Birthing Initiative Needs Assessment Survey. While we make some tweaks and upgrades, the survey will be down until further notice. We will come back stronger and better next year! Thank you to everyone who previously completed the survey. Your valuable input will help us tailor programs and support for Black birthing people. Keep your ears to the ground for updates!
