Connecting the Dots
Lamaze Resources for Infant Mortality Awareness Month
, - ,
National Infant Mortality Awareness Month (NIMAM), founded by the National Healthy Start Association (NHSA), raises awareness of the number of babies who die before their first birthday. According to NHSA, the infant mortality rate is “an important measure of the well-being of infants, children and pregnant women”, as it is associated with several factors including maternal health, quality and access to health services and medical technology, poverty and socioeconomic conditions, community health, and public health practices.
Lamaze International supports these factors and recognizes the importance of maternal and infant health during and post-pregnancy. Check out Lamaze blogs, podcasts, articles from The Journal of Perinatal Education and educational resources from the Lamaze Learning Center that you can reference when educating parents and clients on infant mortality awareness this month and beyond.
