If you're like me, you love to learn from other childbirth educators. Pinterest has been a place that has really gathered some steam in terms of childbirth educators gathering and creating a hub of things to look at, learn, and do.
While I have talked about some of the basics of using a Pinterest board for your childbirth classes, on Science & Sensibility before, there are so many ways that go beyond those basics. I find that I use Pinterest in a variety of ways. I use it to stimulate my senses, particularly as it comes to teaching. There are several great boards that are not specifically about childbirth or even pregnancy, but focus around education. Here are some of my favorites:
Training and Education
This board has a lot on the theories of learning and easy infographics for a ton of various topics. Some of the topics covered hear are gamification, what to do when people aren't paying attention, retention of information, and application of knowledge. This is a great board to follow for those who are at any stage of their childbirth education career.
Adult Education
If you're looking for information on online education, this board will have something for you. I love how it talks about the variety of people and how they respond to online education. And in true Pinterest fashion, you'll also find ideas for crock pot recipes for busy teachers, and information on using prizes in classes from the four types of prizes to the benefits of prizes.
Ice Breakers
What you will find here is not something surprising, but the sheer volume of ice breakers is mind boggling. I have been facilitating workshops and classes of one sort or another for more than 25 years. I have tried so many ice breakers, some with more success than others. While there are certainly ones here that I have seen before, some of them are twists on old favorites or ones I have never heard of or tried before. Hanging out here always gets my creative juices going.
Teaching College
While the name of the board might not immediately attract you, I find a lot of fun things here. I love that it can easily jump from thinking about modern learning theories, to how to play physical games or review from class. So be sure to stop by here and dig around for something fun.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Tips
If you like learning interesting facts about obstetrics, or some of the common mnemonic devices used in obstetrics and midwifery. It is a great place to learn a thing or two as well as spark creativity in creating your own mnemonic devices for things in class. There are also many nursing notes here.
also has several boards. One of these is geared towards tools you can use in your childbirth classes. There are also a few others out that from various childbirth educators with various things from items to make as visual aids to games for your classes. Here are a few to get you started:
