Holiday Gifts for Expecting and New Parents
Your time - Bonus: you don't have to wrap it! Examples: I'm going to the post office, what can I mail for you? I would love some baby snuggles - can I come watch the little one while you sleep or get things done? I'm going to the store, what can I pick you up? I love animals - can I come by and walk your dog this week?
FOOD - In all caps because I cannot stress enough how appreciated the gift of already-cooked meals is to people who are tired and hungry. Give the gift of food by making a delicious dish that they can heat up when they want it, giving a gift card to a nearby restaurant that has the option of take out, or offer to have dinner delivered to their door on a night of their choosing. Be sure you know what kinds of food they like and if there are any food allergies before giving this kind of gift, of course.
Doula or postpartum doula services - This is like the Cadillac, er iPhone 11, of holiday gifts. If it's too much financially for you to consider, go in on it together with other close friends and family. Or, find out if the chosen doula has gift certificates available. The recipient will be forever grateful.
Gift card for all/any needs - Sometimes new and expecting parents just need stuff, like groceries or diapers or a reliable coffee maker. A gift card that they can use to purchase anything and everything is always appreciated.
Massage gift certificate - Pregnant or not, almost any parent will appreciate a massage. A massage isn't just a "luxury" gift; in many cultures, daily massage is a routine part of postpartum care to aid in healing and well being. Massage improves circulation, boosts your mood, and can alleviate pain and discomfort.
Your presence - Plan a time to meet up at a nearby place of interest, or plan a time to stop by and spend quality time together just talking, laughing, and listening.
Subscription - There are so many great options out there for gift subscriptions. Audible is great for someone who loves to read, a diaper subscription is super practical, and a meal or boxed snack service is priceless!
Your favorite things - What kinds of items did you love the most as a new parent? Put together a gift basket of your favorite things, along with a detailed note, and give it to the new and expectant parents on your list. Parents usually love suggestions for helpful, practical products from friends who have been there, done that.
What would you add to this list? What would you have loved as a gift?
