Birth Stories in Color - A Community of Support for Black Birth Stories

Since practically the beginning of humanity, we have participated in and benefitted from the power of storytelling. Birth Stories in Color (BSiC) taps into that age-old power by giving voice to the birthing experiences of Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latino and Multiracial individuals. Through their podcast and website, BSiC celebrates, mourns, and supports these families through pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and parenthood. 

The organization uses "storytelling as a way to equip future parents." Their goal? "...that all who share and listen find this platform to be a community near and far, and an invaluable resource for navigating their own journey."

Co-founders and co-hosts of the show, Laurel Gourrier and Danielle Jackson are reproductive justice advocates, doulas, and mothers. For Laurel, according to her bio, "the core value of uplifting autonomy is the root of her practice." Danielle created the show with Laurel after realizing that "women of color felt liberated to speak their truth and could not stop sharing their own experiences with birth."

In addition to the invaluable stories BSiC offers parents, each story is organized in a way that offers more help for parents. Stories are presented individually with an audio link, a synopsis, and resource links for further help and support. You can also access specific stories based on different themes like birth center, twins, VBAC, loss, etc. BSiC also offers, of course, the chance for others to share their birth stories.
